It depends on the mood really. First person is definitely the dominant genre of shooters, but first-person has their few stars (like MGS and Splinter Cell). Personally I like first-person because of the feel of actually being a part of the game.
First person, TPS almost always have crappy cameras that ruin everything forever. The only real exception to this is the metal gear solid series. (at least for me.)
It's not even so much an extreme like of FPS over TPS as it is a seething hatred for TPS.
Both have the pros and cons and I don't really lean toward either one though I usually play more FPS then TPS. I love playing games with TPS such as metal gear and res 4 but I also play allot of cod4 and fear which are first person I guess its just depends on what I feel like playing at the moment.
