I have heard that some roms do need to be patched so presumably this might fix any compatibility issues?

There is a PC software that has to be used that will patch the ROMS for you. It's all pretty much automatic. You simply select the ROMS, the software patches them and you copy the files that the software generates onto the card.

To apply the patch to the rom you will need SmartISP
Download Smart ISP

After you have pached the rom you can test it on PC with GBA Emulator or use Flash Advance Linker to store the rom on a Flash Card and play it Gameboy Advance!

check out this page for some utilities that you might need.

IPSWin 2.0 seems to work well. I just updated my post with the link. visit the page and look for this software. Note: you cannot directly download the software on the site i gave you. you have to visit that site since they have antileech on.

never used a flash cart for the GBA before but just to cover the basics did you extract the file from the archive(.rar or .zip)? because if you didnt it would explain why it would work on the pc and not the gba. The pc emulators are made to be able to run games that are still archived so they can save space but the GBA flash cart may not be able to do so.
